What Are Mitochondrial Disorders?
Mitochondrial disorders are disorders that affect the mitochondria, which are tiny compartments that are present in almost every cell of the body.
They can cause a vast array of health concerns, from fatigue and weakness to liver and kidney dysfunction and more.
These symptoms can present at any age from infancy up until late adulthood.
Consider This:
1 in 5,000 people worldwide are affected by a mitochondrial disease.
Most affect the CNS.
Every 30 minutes, a child is born who will develop a mitochondrial disorder by age 10.
It is the second most commonly diagnosed serious genetic disorder after cystic fibrosis.
